S.C. Trooper killed

CAMDEN, SC Sept 19 2009 (WIS) – A state trooper was killed in a traffic accident Saturday morning in Camden during a memorial ride for another fallen trooper.

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Capt. David Thomley said 41-year-old Jonathan Nash was driving the lead motorcycle on a memorial ride for Trooper H. Merl Godbold.

Six Highway Patrol motorcycles and two HP patrol cars with their lights activated, escorting a group of motorcycles from Camden Middle School to Bishopville and back to Camden.

Thomley said Nash was hit by a car pulling out of a parking lot onto Highway 1 in Camden, and was killed.

“L/Cpl. Nash was an excellent trooper who had earned the distinction of serving on the motor unit,” said Highway Patrol Col. Kenny Lancaster, Jr. “Trooper Nash was well-loved and would be the first to step up and help anyone. This is a tragedy compounded because L/Cpl. Nash was killed during a charity ride to honor another trooper killed on the same roadway.”

Nash, a resident of Union County, joined the Highway Patrol in 1994. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1986-1993. He is a native of Manatee, Florida.

He is survived by his parents, Dan and George-Ann Nash, both of Anderson, SC, and a 14 year old daughter.

The collision is being investigated by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department at the request of the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office. Thomley wasn’t sure about the possibility of any arrests in the wreck.

Trooper H. M. Godbold was killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver in February 1992. Godbold’s family has organized the ride in his honor since 2006.

Funeral arrangements for Nash will be released by the Highway Patrol at the wishes of his family.

A serious accident has a road closed down as emergency personnel prepare to repell down a steep embankment to free a woman from her wrecked vehicle.

Authorities say that the crash on Sutherland Dairy Rd has the entire road closed near Pageland-Marshville Rd.

The crash sent the vehicle down a steep ravine and the driver is still trapped inside. Her condition is not known at this time.

Three fire departments, Wingate police, sheriff deputies and the State Highway Patrol are on the scene. CMC helicopter is also en route.

A shooting just occurred at the CPCC-Levine Matthews campus.

Stallings and Matthews Police are on scene as well as several K-9 teams.

Police said that two white males shot into an occuppied vehicle and fled toward Hwy 74.

It is unknown if anyone was injured in the shooting.

BREAKING NEWS-Carjacking Stack Rd.

The sheriff’s office has responded to a carjacking on Stack Rd in the county.

Deputies report that three armed black men jumped from a green Honda and carjacked a person and fled with a black Mercedes.

Two suspects in the Honda went toward South Carolina while one suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle toward Monroe.

Area police in North and South Carolina have been put on alert to be on the look out for these suspects and vehicles.

No injuries were reported in this robbery.

BREAKING NEWS-Davis Rd Closed Due To Wreck

A one vehicle roll over accident at 4803 Davis Rd between S. Providence Rd and Shady Oaks Lane has the road closed.

One 20 year old has been injured and is being transported to the hospital.

Highway Patrol is investigating.

BREAKING NEWS-Police hunting armed robbers

AN ARMED ROBBERY WAS REPORTED AT 12:40PM TODAY IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE COUNTY.

Sheriff deputies, detectives and K-9 teams are involved in an active search in the Wade Rory Rd.-Windsong Way areas.

According to investigators, a man was lured to the area and then jumped by three black men armed with handguns.

The man was pistol whipped and robbed and the suspects then fled on foot through a wooded area.

K-9 teams are tracking and deputies have the area closed off.

The victim has been treated on scene by paramedics for a head wound.

We have a team on scene and will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Police and deputies are searching for a person who fled from them in Stallings.

K-9 teams are tracking the suspect near Williams Rescue Rd Indian Trail, Old Charlotte Pk and have additional officers on the way to help.

Police said the man was stopped because he had outstanding warrants and when they tried to arrest him he ran. Police also said that he may have drugs on him.

Police charge man with sex assault of child

Monroe city police and sheriff investigators have arrested Jason Dean Hines, 27, of Monroe and have charged him with 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, Sexual Acts With A Child In His Care, and Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Hines was at his mother’s residence in Unionville which is also a home daycare and is accused of inappropriately touching a 4 year old on Monday. He was cooperative with police but did not admit to any crime.

Hines has been booked into the county jail and is being held on $100,000 bond.

Police chase leads to drug arrest

Person injured during theft from Harley Davidson store

Person injured during Harley Davidson robbery

A theft at the Matthews Harley Davidson shop on Independence Blvd quickly escalated into a robbery when an employee was seriously injured after being run down.

The injured person received a possible broken leg, neck, back and arm injuries and abrasions but injuries were said not to be life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle fled into Charlotte but police have identified him and expect to place serious charges against him when he is captured.

It is not clear at this time if the driver who fled was the shoplifter or someone unrelated to the theft.
