The body of a missing bank manager has been found in a rural part of the county, a sheriff spokesperson said.

Sheriff deputies had been searching this morning for Jeffrey Coley who had been reported missing by his wife Monday evening and were acting on a tip that he was in an area off Highway 218.

Officials said the area where the truck was found was not close to Coley’s home in Marshville.

According to Chief Deputy Ben Bailey, deputies responded to the area earlier in the day when someone spotted Coley’s truck behind a barn. Sheriff deputies used ATVs to search the rural area off the 9600 block of Highway 218 near the Anson County line, setting up a command post and in late afternoon came upon his body after searching for several hours .

Coley was a life-long resident of Marshville and had worked for the American Community Bank in Marshville for nearly 10 years.

Bailey said that they are treating this as a death investigation.

MONROE, N.C. July 16 2009– Jurors found a Union County man not guilty of murder in the death of his friend. .

They didn’t think Bobby Hines, 26, shot and killed Willis McLendon. McLendon’s body was found along railroad tracks in Union County in January 2007.

Jurors told Eyewitness News that the evidence was just wasn’t solid. But the jury did find Hines guilty on a weapons charge. He’s already serving 20 years in a robbery case, so now he’ll have to serve at least 20 more months.

Both sides left court emotional. Hines’s mother was thrilled with the verdict but didn’t want to go on camera. Hines’s lawyer, Richard Culler, said he was surprised, but he said Hines never had any doubts.

“Somehow, he always felt he was going to be exonerated, I’m not trying to say that I think somehow he felt like he was always going to come out on top of this thing,” Culler said.

But McLendon’s family and friends hoped this case would bring them closure, not more disappointment. One woman sitting with them in court left the building and cried on a bench outside. Afriend of the family, Donna Franklin, said, “We just thought it was going to be different, but I guess, it didn’t turn out right like that.”

Pamela Locklear was stunned, too. Her boyfriend, Stafford Locklear, was Hines’s co-defendant at one point, but he struck a deal with the state and testified against Hines.

1620199599CHARLOTTE, N.C. July 16 2009– The success of a temporary gang unit in Charlotte led authorities to create a permanent unit for the region.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement will have a full-time anti-gang unit in Charlotte by the end of the summer. U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick sent a letter to ICE Assistant Secretary John T. Morton in late-May asking for a temporary unit to become permanent.

“The temporary ICE gang unit that has worked with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to dismantle violent street gangs like MS-13 has been a great success. I’m hopeful that a permanent presence will build on this success to further disrupt the violent gang activities that threaten the safety of our citizens,” Myrick said.

Morton said that 70 trans-national gang members have been arrested on civil immigration and criminal violations this year in Charlotte.

CMPD’s gang unit has been working with ICE since 2005. It also has a working relationship with two dozen Federal Bureau of Investigation gang unit agents.

Officers said the federal assistance means more resources.

“ICE has immigration and custom laws they may be able to enforce that maybe the FBI can’t,” said Capt. Stephen Willis of CMPD’s gang unit.

ICE said due to security concerns, it’s not able say how many agents will be in Charlotte permanently, but the money for the unit will be coming from ICE’s federal budget.
